Owners Duff and Karla Ray moved to Skagway, Alaska in 1979 as a young married couple with a dream to make it on their own in untamed Alaska. They tell the story of arriving by boat "with $10 to their name and a half a loaf of bread". Over the next 35+ years, Duff and Karla worked hard to build a collection of stores that serve Skagway visitors and locals alike.
Duff and Karla's 2 daughters and son-in-law help run the stores now. Their grandchildren are already helping in the backroom folding shirts and sweeping. It truly is a family affair.
